does anyone know what diff i should use in my 240sx

well heres the deal.. i want to get a lsd of some type... i really cant afford a 5lug swap so i am looking for a diff swap that i can swap in without having to swap my hubs out... any ideas??? i been reading about the q45 and j30 but they both seem like i need to get a 5lug hub then... i just want one that i can just swap in and maybe dont have to use different axles..

No need for 5 lug with J30, I had 4 lug and put in a J30 no problem. Bolts right in. Just have to make sure axle cups are the correct type.

Google the J30 swap, it will tell you what to look for/differences.

You can do what I did, the cheap way out by getting it welded.

Just run stock. You seem to have huge plans, but don't finish anything.

yeah i dont really want a welded diff... i want something like a vlsd... i know i have big plans but have u seen my old spec v??? i finished that one... also my 200sx se-r... its just that i lost my job until now...

Then just drive it for a while, until you stack some cash. You are lookin at body pieces, turbo kits, and diffs. Then you say you can't afford a 5 lug swap...? Take some advice from an old guy, just drive it for now, it'll pay off later.

^+1 from another old guy. I save the money for what I want then I sit on it for awhile to make sure it is what I really want to spend money on. That way I don't waste time and money on stuff I am going to regret as often.

just save cash and choose one direction. it looks like you are not sure wat u want to do yet. projects take time an pacience. trust me i know.

i would just look for a s14 VLSD. or even the rare s13 VLSD. there cheap.

ok i guess im just going to sit on it and start thinking of what i really want then... i know i want something better then an open and not a welded though... i still would like some suggestions on what would be good for this build... looking for something that would be good for a daily and occational track events... auto cross/lapday and maybe something for drifting... thats something i would love to learn and practice on

Again it seems like you don't even know what you want your car to do....you want a lap car...no I want to auto cross....no I want to drift.....wait no.....just pick something and make the car good at it.

not really.... he gave me all the options and i decided, and he was like WHATTTTTTTTTTTT lol then lots of this and this... and more of that... only infront of a computer. and we end up with....

what i meant by that is that i want the car to be able to handle whatever events that are going on at the local tracks.. i want it to be able to do all thoughs

a s13 or s14??? how much and were did u find it???

S13. the previous owner put it in. you can find them for like $100 or $200 usually.

that's what i would do. good street car diff. no loud whining/lock ups. just a good lsd.

If money is a concern, vlsd. Preferably from the infiniti because theoritically, the nissan lsd counterpart is probably abused. The driver skill level is more important than the lsd type. Not that I'm skilled. So I wouldn't worry about aftermarket 1.5-2 ways or whatever.

haha i built a 10 dollar motor with the stock open diff in the car its not something you need to do right away i just finished the motor so now i'm putting the a Q45 diff in.

i would say for your application you would be fine with a S14 vlsd or a j30 at the most... you won't need the stoutness of the Q45.

imo vlsd's suck really bad. my old one worked ok for drag racing but would spin the inner wheel on hard corners. i now have a nismo clutch type. it chatters at low speeds if you are turning hard while releasing the clutch. but other than that the thing is amazing. never had it slip ever. only bad part is i change the fluid 2 times a year. i use the kaaz fluid which is about 50 bucks. otherwise if you are worried about noise you can use a helical style. that will feel like stock noise wise. dont even waste your time with a 100 dollar diff.
