i have been looking up different things and was wondering if any one has heard of some one dropping a ecotec into their 240? what are cheaper 4 bangers that can produce major hp? and what are the top states for those engines?

If your talking about one off a solstice or what ever they are. It would be sweet. But for the money you'd put into might as well go with a Sr20. Unless you find a sweet deal one. If your.talking about.the.turbo version.

I've seen 700+HP Street SR20's i think they have made more in race spec stuff.

but that is a TON of money to do that much power in one. a Ecotech swap (Even a S/c or T/c Cobalt SS motor) with some sort of 5 or 6spd mated up to it *using the solstice trans* would be cool as well.

i could use a t5 with the ecotec bell housing. or even a t56 with that bell housing. then it would be a matter of linking it up to the rear.

sr's with a few upgrades can make up to 300+ reliably hp. an you dont have to spend a million dollars to make the ecotec motor fit. or just do an LS7 swap an call it a day

Umm, seeing as nobody has done it (that I know of)....ALOT!

If you are asking questions like that, its not the swap for you.

All throttle by wire as well, will need access to GM scan tools with the possibility of needing security access from GM itself.

Save yourself the effort of typing and do something a little more mainstream. Its fun to think out of the box, but to seriously consider something like that the flags are already going up by you asking "How much work would it take".

Let us know how it turns out, LOL.

no idea as far as i know it's never been done.
not saying it can't but without a welder and some determination and some skill it would cost alot to drop the car off and have them make mounts and figure out how to make it work.

I think it would be a fun swap to try if you know your way around a fab shop or have some good welding experiance. i have a friend who was half tempted to buy a S13 and buy a LSJ (CobaltSS motor) and make it work so he could have a cheaper track car.

If you have fabrication skills and have experience in welding, then you got the that part settled. Taking it to a shop would cost you a leg and arm. Wiring you could get away with some kind of ecu like MS,arm, etc. But all this requires some good skills to pull all that off. Would be sweet but I say start with a simple swap.

i love the ecotec and i think it is plausable. i asked the price question because he thought it would be millions. the main things that i see that would be the issue would be the mounting of the motor and the linking of the drive line. also the motor can be found at just about every junk yard as well as the trans. i am also not thinking of doing this right away i just thought i would put it out there and see what people had to say. everywere i have looked people have bashed the ecotec though there is an s10 with one and another guy is actually planing on putting one in his 83 camaro. so before you all jump me and call me crazy. i am just looking into it with the idea of doing it in the futur.

Try it, there are a few members on here with "crazy" swaps. Lizmo has a 2JZGTE swapped 240sx. 600SX has a LS2 in a 240sx. there is a few rb guys floating around here too.

i dont think it would be worth the cost. mazworx has a 1400hp sr. get an sr swap cheap or just put a v8 in it. lsx of course. otherwise people have put k series in s2000's you could do that swap. k series parts are plentyfull and they make great power...millions of choices.

If you want to swap it, do it.

2 things you need to know with any swap...

1. It will cost more than you budget.
2. Some things will be hard, and will take time.

mounting the motor shouldnt be that hard. just good measurements and a good welder. but the wiring i would imagine it would be a nighmare but than again you can probably go with a stand alone. but hey if your the one to do it. that would be awesome haha

If you don't have another car to drive around during the process, don't do it. But in the future if you do, then okay, do it.

yeah most def a stand alone trying to rewire everything in the car. it is bad enough that i dont have rear defrost because of the wire being cut. it has a single strand wire in the center of the rest and just have not found the time to come up with something for it.

not all ecotechs are "throttle by wire" just find an early 2000's cavalier throttle body and swap it out. But i guarrantee your rewiring your entire car almost. Lots of fab stuff for a GM motor. If you want cool factor go for it. But anything else, your just wasting your time.

^ I don't think it would be a waste of time. Yes people build ka's and sr's to handle a lot of power, but ecotec's hold their own, and might just be the strongest factory bottom end.
